My Wedding Photos

So I finally got married on November 24 this year and so sorry that I have been very very slow to put photos up on the internet due to my slow dial-up connection. If you are interested, you can see some of my pictures on my facebook account at:

Mongolia Update - Sept. 2007

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I hope this letter finds you well and that the past few months have been good to you! After an August of packing up my things and saying goodbyes to my friends and co-workers in Mongolia, I finally left Mongolia for Hawaii on 8/23. Though it was sad to say good bye, I am also excited to be back! It has been a refreshing past few weeks as I spent time resting, reflecting, and being with my family and friends.

As I look back on my time in Mongolia, there are so many thoughts, so many lessons, and so many things experienced. Though my time in Mongolia hasn't always been easy, your prayers and support for me have been such a great source of blessing and strength! Thank you for all of your faithful support and prayers these past two and a half years!

FCS
The end of the summer also marked the end of my official commitments to Mongolia's FCS college ministry and teaching at Ulaanbaatar University. Over the past two and a half years, we have seen many students hear the gospel and given their lives in following Jesus. This summer we completed our fourth GrX English summer camp. Though I usually help support the work of FCS-2, this year we worked with about 30 students from one of the other FCS chapters. It was a busy but very good two weeks as we built relationships with the students and shared God's love. The highlight of the camp was on the last night where we went on an overnight camping trip and had a campfire. It was an awesome time as the students shared their camp experiences and the incredible love of Jesus that they experienced through the camp and the FCS community. As the new semester begins, four of the new students from the camp have came back and signed up for Bible studies to learn more about Jesus and Christianity! Praise the Lord!

Ulaanbaatar University
In June, I was both sad and happy to see another group of my students graduate. However, after graduation, I was able to go on a camping trip with them for a couple of days in the countryside. It was good time for me to just hang out with my students, have fun, and share our memories from these past couple of years. Though some of my students were often quiet and reserved, I was glad that in this environment, I was able to have some deeper conversations with them about their life, their future, and share with them one last time the Good News of Jesus.

As my time at UB University ends, the Lord has also provided others in continuing the ministry to the teachers and students at our school. One of the people that God has provided is Eva, who is a missionary from Hong Kong. She also has a heart for reaching Mongolian college students and this past semester, we co-lead an English Bible study for students from our school. I have also been mentoring her this past semester in teaching classes and working with the college students and teachers. She has such a passion for talking about the Bible and spiritual things and I am so thankful for God's continued provision.

What's Next…
After soaking in the warm Hawaiian sun, I will be coming to California on 9/19 and spending a couple of weeks in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. I am planning to use this time to continue to rest physically and in reflection and debrief of my experiences in Mongolia. I am also looking forward to meeting, reconnecting, and spending time with friends and supporters. I am hoping to be renewed and refreshed spiritually as well as physically, and to encourage and be encouraged through my interactions. Though I don’t know what exactly God will lead me to do next, I am hoping this time of reflection and spiritual refreshment will help me to better hear and discern His leading.

I hope all is well with you! If you are around, please let me know. I would love to hear how you are doing and meet up with as many of you as I possibly can. Currently, I have no home address. However, if you would like to reach me by phone, you can call me at: (408) 667-0865

God bless and I look forward to hearing from you!
-Chun

English Camp 2007

English Camp 2007 is here and underway! We just finished the first two full days of camp and it is going well. The GrX team is beginning to build relationships with the students and getting into a groove. Please keep us in prayer for these next two weeks that the new students would come to see and know God through their interactions with the American team and the FCS students!

More to come later...

Moses at the Red Sea

Today, God gave me a deeper insight on the story of Israelites at the Red Sea, especially from the perspective of Moses. After listening to Pastor Dave's WCC workshop on "Quarter-Life Crisis" (Thanks Andrea for the CD!) I've got a whole new appreciation of what it must be like for Moses. God calls Moses through the burning bush, and in a less than self-confident posture, obeys God to go to speak to Pharaoh with nothing more than the promise that God will be with Him. After having been used by God to perform miracles and finally forcing the Pharaoh out of Egypt, God leads them to a dead-end at the Red Sea.

I've read this story many times, and even seen the movies! However, today God showed me how panicked and afraid I would be if I was Moses in this situation. Following God's leading, Moses end up in a dead-end. The Israelites are trapped and have nowhere to go. If I was Moses, I would probably be thinking did I not hear God correctly. Did I make some mistake along the way?

The stakes for him and for the Israelites was huge. If the Egyptians caught the Israelites, Moses and many of the Israelites would probably be killed. The surviving Israelites would probably be subject to even harsher punishments. The end of a dream of freedom. The end of hope for the Israelites. Moses would've failed spectacularly. This spoke big to me. To fail miserably is probably one of my biggest fears. That fear drives me to work hard and to be responsible in what I do. In Moses' case, not only would it be a big personal failure, but the effects of his failure would also be far ranging not only with the dead of many Israelites but perhaps even the potential end of an entire race of people. I don't know if I can handle that much responsibility.

I think I fear that one day I would end up in an impossible situation. I think God often leads us to uncomfortable and difficult places. I am afraid that one day, in following God's leading, I would end up in a dead-end and God will not be there. I am afraid I would've gambled everything I had in following after God and then God will not be around when I needed Him the most. In following God's leading, I risk all and end up at the Red Sea with incredible stakes, the Egyptians pursuing, and no way out.

God spoke to me today that He will always be there with me. God will not leave me to face the problem by myself. He will always be there with me to provide a way or to help me through it. God calls us to follow Him to a place that He will show us. He invites us to join Him in what He is doing. He doesn't usually tell us too much about what we will face ahead of time. As I follow him, I sometimes look at my circumstance and wonder if this is what He had in mind for me and if He loves me. Calls us to give up more and more of ourselves to Him, especially our securities in this life, so that we may come to trust and be more dependent on Him.

I've gotta say, one of the temptations of returning to the U.S. is to just go back to a comfortable life and a comfortable job by default. To provide and prepare for my own future out of my fear that God will not be there at the Red Sea. To go back to what is known and to what you feel like you can control is always more tempting than going to a place that is unknown and to do something that is contrary to the values of the world. If He promises to be with me always, even if I end up at the Red Sea, could I not let go of the things that I need in order to feel secure in life?
